About this event

The COVID-19 pandemic has undeniably impacted children's emotional well-being, leaving parents wondering how to best address their children's mental health needs during these unprecedented times.

Join NEXUS for an interactive conversation with Joan Steinberg, who recently launched Morgan Stanley’s “Alliance for Children’s Mental Health” & leading next gen mental health advocate Zak Williams for a discussion on how to help parents spot warning signs & symptoms in kids (from toddlers to teens), model resilience during COVID, and find ways to use this unique moment when families are spending more time together at home to rethink how vulnerability can be a strength, not a weakness.

We will also speak to specific non-profits leading the way, the substantial funding gap for children's mental health, and how we all can play a role in breaking stigma around mental health (the private sector included)!

Zak Williams is CEO and co-founder of the mental health support company PYM Health and the co-founder and co-president of entertainment company Hypothesis. He is also an angel investor in consumer technology and consumer packaged goods companies. Formerly, Zak was COO of the recommendation platform Crossing Minds, the Director of Business Development for media company Conde Nast, and the marketing lead for gaming and media platform N3TWORK.

Zak is a board member of mental health awareness non-profit Bring Change 2 Mind, a US Trustee of United for Global Mental Health, a Director of The Yerba Buena Center of the Arts where he focuses on guiding the organization's strategy and business development initiatives. He received an MBA from Columbia Business School and BA from New York University with a double major in Linguistics and Literature. He lives in California and is father to a young toddler.

Joan Steinberg currently oversees Morgan Stanley’s global philanthropic programs, including strategic planning and execution, employee engagement, and corporate and Foundation grantmaking totaling more than $90 million annually. Since joining the Firm, Joan has more than quadrupled the company’s giving; created programs for more than 50,000 employees; and expanded the Firm’s geographic outreach so that more communities could be served. She recently launched the firm's "Alliance for Children's Mental Health".

Joan is active in her community, serving currently as an Executive Committee member of the Children’s Advisory Council of New York Presbyterian Hospital, as Chair of the SIFMA Foundation Board and a Board member of Philanthropy New York; and a member of the Leadership Committee of the Children’s Health Fund. Previously she also served as the Program Officer and President of the Contributions Advisory Group. In 2001, she was inducted into the Academy of Women Achievers by the YWCA of New York City and her programs have been recognized by the US Chamber of Commerce US Community Service Award. She lives on the East Coast and is the proud parent of an 11 year old.
